$800 canon 40D: Is this too good to be true???

After purchasing a magazine recently inside there was an ad for BroadwayPhoto listing the price for a canon 40D (not 400D/Rebel Xti) as $779, WAY below most other retailers. Is this real? Does the camera ship with no warranty or is it gray market? Please tell me your experiences with this and other online camera retailers.|||Hi -

Unfortunately, it is too good to be true. BroadwayPhoto has a habit of buying camera's from overseas and then listing them as American made camera's.

I once was going to buy an XTi from them. Luckily I noticed that it said the word Kiss in it. That means that it was, If I remeber correctly, from Japan.

I don't know where you stand, but I prefer to buy my Camera's in the flesh. If I'm going to be shelling out over a thousdand dollar's on something, I want to see it, touch it, inspect...that sort of thing.

Anyways,

Avoide BroadwayPhoto. Also, if you are unsure of a company, check the Better Business Bureaus website.

Here is the link for BroadwayPhoto on the BBB website. You can see for yourself how many problems there are with the company.

Hope this helps,

Dana :-)|||very interesting answer Dana.

I alsa saw these low prices (around $850) on one of many websites of Broadwayphoto (preferredphoto.com by instance). I shall buy it in an "official" shop, non grey market...

Thanks for the rating business site

|||That's the 'Body only' price...and beware, because Broadway DOES sell grey market products

From their warranty details...

"Broadway Photo LLC also carries imported/Grey Market products which are not covered by the original manufacturer鈥檚 warranty."|||please trust all the answers given. If it's a ripoff or scam, don't even bother. I've read so many questions on here about how innocent people get scammed from scam artist camera websites, it's awful|||It's too good to be true. Broadway Photo is a ripoff place. Stay away! Check out http://www.resellerratings.com and see.|||If it sounds too good to be true==== it usually is.

I prefer to deal with local people if possible, particularly considering warranty on such a complex device.
