Why is the television market saturated with shows like Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, House, ER? What is people's appeal to watch them?|||There is always drama, always the possibility of people being close to death and making remarkable recoveries or having dramatic death bed scenes. On things like "House" which I watch regularly, and "Gray's Anatomy" which I've watched a little, and "Private Practice' which I've never seen; or ER or even older "St Elsewhere" (Which to me was the parent of "ER" and another 90's medical show "Chicago Hope") there is a lot of time for the personal lives of the doctors, nurses, even patients to play out.
Because a hospital has large numbers of people employed there, or being treated there, dramas like "St Elsewhere", "ER" and even to some extent, "House" can have fairly large casts and a lot of stories going at one time. .
"House" has gone from primarily being about the diagnosis, and how it is reached, to primarily being a soap about the lives of House, his addiction, Wilson and House, House and Cuddy, Cameron and Chase being together (like the actors were in real life for a time), breaking up (like in real life), etc.
They are all in one place, in the hospital, not a scene on the street, a scene in a police station, a scene with attorneys and a trial, like the "Law and Order" franchise or something. All the scenes are in one part of the hospital or another, for the most part, it makes in more, I don't know, compact?|||I agree with rubym. Other arenas don't seem to sustain: look at Vegas - fell off after a while.
CSI is top rated as it deals with medical and personal. It is automatically drama being in a hospital where true life and death occur. Other places, i.e. real estate offices don't offer, attorney offices don't offer, dot com offices don't offer, banks don't offer, horse farms don't offer, restaurants don't offer..... hospitals have it ALL.|||most of them are way over dramatized and people enjoy that. people actually get into that feild cause of what they see on tv but they soon realize its not. i think people like them so much cause of the false portrayel of the lifestyle and making it seem so glamorous|||I like House because of the character and plot. Not because it's a hospital drama.
Maybe ppl like it due to the heart-pumping moments that is when u wonder whether the patient dies or not.|||I personally don't watch them. But I think maybe because there is a lot of drama in that type of setting so there is a lot to write stroylines around.|||i love hospital shows because they are very intense and entertaining|||i dont know.. ask them
