It was a bird in a meat market -- larger than a game hen, but smaller than a chicken. It's feathers had already been plucked off, and it's flesh was this dark purple shade. What was that??
And while I'm asking, I also saw these dusty gray grub looking things. About 3 - 4" long. They looked like some sort of gray slug, but more dry. There were boxes full of them. Any idea what they were?
I sure saw some fascinating things today! Thanks for your help. :-)|||The answer to your first question: its probably a Dark skinned chicken. We call it Black chicken. When its double boiled it contains medicinal values.Chinese like these.and consider them tonic for the body, when double oiled in soup and herbs.
The other one,of which i have attached a link,is probably sea cucumber. It can be dried or fresh. As grubby as it looks,it is believed to contain medicinal value. It is not a cheap item and in some cases, served during expensive banquets. It taste a bit between rubber and sponge.Usually served with other things like mushrooms and chicken, etc|||That was probably a Guinea Hen. The Chinese like them.
Idk what the grubs were. Good thing you didn't run across any "Dog Penis Fondue"|||Hi Pin up,
That poor like chicken, no feathers and waiting to be cooked..The long gray things could been dry Ell..
Your Friend,
poppy1|||The bird was probably a roadrunner. (Meep meep!)
The grub-things almost certainly were tribbles that had been shaved. I'm told they're quite good when sauteed in butter and garlic.|||The person who mentioned the black skinned chicken is correct.
It is actually called a Black Silky Chicken.|||may have been a goose, their meat is darker. The grub looking things may have been dried sea cucumber, also known as sea squirt. Asian super markets are fascinating places.
