I have had Fujifilm cameras in the past which have been manufactured in Japan. Today I received my new S8000, which is identified as made in China. Is it legit or a grey-market model? A link to an official page would really be appreciated (I can't seem to find manufacturing info on the Fujifilm page).
I am in Australia, just in case my region is relevant.
Thanks!|||Fujifilm makes its cameras in factories all over the world. It won't make any difference where they are manufactured, as long as the quality controls are in place. I am sure that your camera is legitimate, in that it's a real Fujifilm. As to whether it's an officially imported model or a grey market model, you need to contact you Australian importer for that information. The only difference between a legit import and a grey market import is that one comes from the official importer and the grey market camera is imported by other than the official importer (imagine a guy shipping 500 cameras to himself from Hong Kong, then reselling them, for example).
Thus, the legitimate importer will have genuine cameras made from China, just like the grey market one. You'll see differences in things like warranty coverage more than anything else.|||I guess the question is this ... did you buy your camera from a reputable camera store?
My Nikon USA D200 was assembled in Thailand.
My Nikon USA lens are all made and assembled in Japan.
It is a world economy, so at any time, various pieces of our professional equipment can be assembled anywhere in the world. The only thing we have to know is that its warranty is valid in our part of the world
