How can I tell if my dog is a siberian husky or an alaskan malamute?

I got her from a flea market...they said she was a siberian husky but the more i look ay siberians the more i think she's something else.

She's about 2 and a half feet tall, black white and a little grey, crystal blue eyes. I think she might be over weight, but what are some characteristics I can look for?|||The blue eyes are a dead give away. Mals aren't permitted to have blue eyes. But then again, you did buy her from a flea market. I doubt high quality breeders are hanging out there dying to sell their dogs. Chances are she is a large sibe simply because of poor breeding.|||If you got her from a flea market, chances are she is probably not a purebred.

Here is a Siberian Husky

Alaskan Malamute

while huskeys were bread to pull thinks fast,

malamutes are fuzzier, and alot thicker|||i wonder the same thing about my dog! he is waaaay bigger than all the husky's @ the dog park. he has bright blue eyes, weighs about 85 pounds and is thick as heck... he loves to run, but gets tired really fast... so im confused also.... lol

im sure this didnt answer your question, but we're on the same page at least ;)|||Here's a Sibe: http://www.karnovanda.com/images/karnova鈥?/a>

If you got her from a flea market, then you got her from a backyard breeder, and since they're not remotely concerned with health, temperament or conformation, then of course your dog doesn't resemble a show or working dog. But if she's been healthy so far, more power to you.

You should post a pic of her here . . . .|||I am thinking you have a Siberian/Malamute mix. Your dog has the eyes of a Siberian and the size of a malamute. My first Siberian was at the very top of the breed standard for a Husky. He was 66 pounds,ok one pound too heavy, and he was approx 22 inches high at the shoulder. I am 6 feet tall and I could scratch his ears without bending or stooping. Siberians were bred to pull relatively light loads over great distances quickly. Malamutes were breed to pull heavy loads. So 30-32 inches tall is extreemly large for even a large Husky. But Malamutes do not have blue eyes. The hair color is very similar. Congrats, you have a beautiful mutt|||A picture would help.

Mals aren't "supposed" to have blue eyes. But that doesn't mean it's not a Mal x Husky. It could also just be poorly bred. Flea markets don't attract the most honest vendors IMO.|||Husky-Malamute Mix. Female Malamutes are taller then Female Huskies. Those Crystal Blue Eyes are Siberians. I've never seen a Malamute with blue eyes before. It could be that it has Malamute Size traits and Siberian Blue Eyes.
